Lending extra credence to the possibility that this corner focus issue is some sort of mastering error rather than a stylistic effect is the appearance of some pretty severe color convergence errors in the same corner areas. This is what you get if you decide you don't want your Kong to fight dinosaurs again. But what I can say is that regardless of whether it’s deliberate or accidental, the extent and aggressiveness of its effects in Kong make it routinely distracting. I didn’t see Kong: Skull Island in the cinema, so I can’t vouch for whether the same corner focusing issue existed there too. I’ve seen this effect during other UHD BD and BD releases from time to time, where I’ve assumed it to be a result of the lenses the filmmakers chose to use. The single biggest problem is that the corners of the image look routinely out of focus.
